Mailing Lists

Looking for some email contacts or discusson groups? Listed below are the email lists sponsored by sfgoth.com, and also by other domains.

sfglj
The largest list hosted by sfgoth, this is a discussion group for goths in the San Francisco Bay Area. The proverbial "Junkies List." Membership is currently 304 and changes daily. Unmoderated for the most part. Very high traffic (50-100 messages a day on average, slow on the weekends.) Learn more from the sfglj page.

sfglj-announce
Only want the important stuff? The sfglj-announce list is specifically used to announce events, concerts, outings, and other such fare. All members of the sfglj list receive announce mail by default. This is the ideal list if you want to keep track of events without having to wade through junkies list mail. Missed an important date? Need to check the archives of the annouce list? This has what you need...

bands-l
The bands list is for people who are in bands or are musicians looking for a band to be in.
The kinds of things we talk about are: What are cool clubs to play at, how can you get to play there? How do you do independent record production? How do you get with a label if you want to? How can you sell your records on the internet?
It's a cool place for bands to hook up with each other and get to know the other local bands on the scene, etc.
This is an invite only mailing list. The bands list leader is Rob from Secret-Secret. If you are interested you should email him at rob@secret-secret.com for further information about joining.

bikergoths-l
The Bikergoths-L is a non-moderated mailing list. It is for goths, rivetheads, and sympathizers, who ride, or want to ride, motorcycles. List members mostly just talk shop, organize rides and outings. List Homepage location is http://www.sfgoth.com/bikers/

darkthreads
We're mysterious. Darkthreads was originally a point of contact for the SF Goth Sewing Circle; The Young Ladies Sampler, Tea and Arsenic Society used to meet at Janvier's house and was given the list to keep in touch. It's always been open to anyone who wants sewing advice, companions, or has information or society to offer. Very easygoing, glad to have new peeps who want to make things. The physical side of the list, meeting for sewing circle, originally had a standing invite to meet at Belladonna Arcana on sunday afternoons. Today the meetings are held irregularly hosted by various members. The list itself is a pretty quiet one, used now mostly for questions about sources, help with making/fixing/designing, hints about sales {clothing, fabric or patterns} and other stuff of practical interest. Not a lot of chatter or gossip goes on, but people proove their alive when a question or good sale-notice is posted.

east bay dinner mailing list
List for those from the SFGoth junkie list interested in attending the East Bay Dinners. You must RSVP to attend.

games-l
Games-L is an announce/planning list for gaming and geekery related events. Like the magic tournaments at Gamescape, and game nights and such.
Pretty quiet list, but a good contact for people who like RPGs, LARPs, and card based games like MTG.

S.F.Veggies
This list is specifically for the vegetarians in the s.f. area, in particular the goth community; however, carnivores are welcome as long as they realize the premise for this group.

GGPET - Munch
Announcements list for fetish events around SF area

writers
Savia and Kali Nichta have started a mailing list for writers. In Savia's words: "This list is intended for writers of all flavors: poetry, fiction, non-fiction, etc. The purpose of this list is to get input from other writers on your own writing, to offer and receive inspiration to help with writer's block, and to share and learn more about writing as both a functional part of life and a means of expression."
This list is open to *all* writers, not just writers who happen to be goth or writers who write in a gothly manner. What list members looking for is an exchange of ideas and critiques, and many differing views and mindsets are welcome.

SFGoth Private Mailing Lists

In addition to public mailing lists which anyone can join, SFGOTH also hosts mailing lists which are private or closed, and require either the owner or possibly unanimous approval from mailing list members in order to join. You are unlikely to know who else is on the mailing lists without the approval of its owner.

ggpet
The GGPET e-list is a community of friendly fetish freaks in the San Francisco bay area. The list is a fairly low traffic announcement and discussion list centered mainly on planning, meeting up for, or talking about local BDSM/fetish events.

lupo-l
You can only join if Lupo likes you. Otherwise, buzz off.
-Lupo

sfgoth-l
SFgoth-L was launched 1/25/97 to fill a need for a forum discussing local music events, topics, and issues related to gothic and industrial in San Francisco (and nearby regions in the Bay Area.) It is the hope of the moderators of this mailing list to provide a forum on these topics which is intellectually stimulating, fun, and practical to its readers. Its moderators are Cliff and Christine.

sfpolygoth
SFPolyGoth is a list that exists for SF Bay-area polyamorous people in the gothic/industrial, fetish/BDSM, and related "freak" scenes. Consider it a self-selecting group (currently containing 95 people). A polyamorous sci-fi convention-going geekfreak, rockabilly scooterfreak, or possibly even ambient & trance dancefreak, might or might not feel at home, but a mainstream non-freak almost certainly will not and is unlikely to be welcomed, though you won't be denied participation on the list, unless you prove to be disruptive. Hosted by gothpunk.com

sf rivethead mailing list
fluff fluff fluff fluff fluff fluff, "discussion" if you are lucky...PENIS PENIS PENIS

southbaysfgoth
This list is for goths south of San Francisco (greater Silicon Valley) actually any and all deathrockers - rivet heads - notagoths - *whatever* are welcome. Originally this list was a spin off from sfgoth for people in the south bay to get together for dinner, organize carpools to San Francisco clubs, gothnics, (even gasp! bowling!) and who knows what else. We complain about the lack of a scene in San Jose now also : )
