SF Goth Spring Gothnic, a.k.a. the 6 year SFGoth list anniversary!
DATE: Saturday, June 28th, 2003
TIME: 3pm - 7pm (park closes at 7)
LOCATION: Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Specifically the picnic area surrounded by trees at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive near 26th avenue. Map available here.
THE DRILL: Show up, bring food, share, have fun, meet people in your goth community.
Our picnic spot is surrounded by redwood trees and across the street from a neat duck pond called "Mallard Lake." This spot has more grass than the Dutch Windmill location, yet is private and less windy than the giant meadow of 1999. There is plenty of parking along MLK Drive and since the area is pretty level with the sidewalk I would say it is handicapped accessible.
We will have at least two, possibly four picnic tables at this location for our use, in addition to two bar-b-que stands. It is advised that you bring your own chairs and blankets to sit on, as well as a garbage bag or two for cleanup.
The only problem with this spot is the lack of restroom facilities. This has always been a problem at our previous picnics. The nearest restroom facility within the park is about two blocks northeast of our picnic spot and East of the baseball diamond. Or you could visit one of the establishments two blocks south on Lincoln Avenue. At the suggestion of the park, I will call some rental companies to price out Port-A-Potties, but chances are the cost of renting toilets will be beyond the budget for this year's event.
Also, please see the Gothnic FAQ for additional miscellaneous info. Any questions should be sent to Alicia.
You want to bring stuff to the Gothnic? Here are some suggestions.
Seating Arrangements: Blankets or lawn chairs are recommended.
Food: Bring hot or cold food to share if you like. People seem to bring everything imaginable, and in the case of Lord Drakon's 1998 tribute to Cthulu centerpiece, some unimaginable too. Please remember to bring serving utensils, plates, sporks, etc.
Drink:
Cameras: Take photos! Put them on the web! Send us the links to your photos too!
Sunscreen: Don't risk spoiling the pale complexion it took you years of nocturnal dwelling to obtain!
Kids: Breeders, bring those kids on down to the picnic. Kids have a great time at these outdoor events, plus there is a big duck pond for them to terrorize the local wildlife!
Supersoakers: A longstanding tradition at the gothnics has been to bring supersoakers. I don't know if there is a water hookup nearby for you to fill up those hydration cannons, but feel free to use the nearby pond and get your pals wet with a little Duck Tea! (tm Perki)
Games: We need volunteers to bring fun things like balls and games and croquet sets and stuff! I'm not going to be able to rent a croquet set for the picnic this year so if you have one or access to one, GRAB IT & BRING IT!
