SF TNG Munch FAQ
What's a Munch?
(Copied from the Society of Janus
website)
Munches have become a way to meet like-minded kinky folk in an informal and
hassle-free environment. Usually the setting for a "munch" is a restaurant or
coffee shop or similar environment.
If you have the time/curiousity, Jay Wiseman (author of "SM 101: A Realistic Introduction") created A Beginner's Guide to BDSM Munches
So what is this Munch all
about? And what's TNG mean?
It's a simple get-together at a restaurant to meet and hang out
with other BDSM/kinky folk. The plan is to eat, drink,
socialize, introduce everybody, make announcements about upcoming
BDSM events, and discuss any
issues/topics/questions that people care to bring up.
There are plenty of munches in the bay area. This one is
specifically designed for the younger generation of kinksters,
i.e. ages 18 to 38 and their partners.
TNG stands for "The Next Generation".
The munch used to be called the SF Gen-X Munch, but over time the moniker no longer fit. The term TNG is used for the younger generation of the BDSM community for many groups throughout the U.S.
What is BDSM?
BDSM is an acronym
encompassing Bondage & Discipline, Dominance & submission, Sado-masochism,
and pretty much any other kinky activity.
There are plenty of books about this and even more info on the Internet. But to avoid you plugging the word "BDSM" into google and hitting a 100 porn sites, let me at least give you a starting place.
I'm not sure if I'm into BDSM
but I'm curious; is this okay?
What goes on at the Munch?
Those new to the BDSM scene are especially
encouraged to attend. No real play goes on at the Munch, no one
is expected to do anything (other than be respectful of others),
there is no admission cost, there is no dress code, and we have
our own private room. This creates a nice low-pressure, social
environment for discussing anything we want. Even if you know nothing about
the BDSM scene, you're still welcome to come - there's a kinky side to just
about everybody.
So how do I attend?
First you should RSVP to Jason at squee@sfgoth.com.
If you decide at the last minute to attend, then don't worry about the RSVP. Just in general
we need to know how many people to expect.
Where is this located? Is
there public tranportation that can get me there?
The Brickhouse Cafe is located at:
426 Brannan Street (between 3rd and 4th Street)
San Francisco, CA 94107
It's about a block away from SBC Park, Caltrain, many MUNI lines,
and the Glas Cat (where
BaGG is held on Wednesdays).
If you're traveling by MUNI, you can see the 10 or so lines that will get you there here. Or you can find the
restaurant in the bottom right section of the downtown MUNI Map.

I'm low on funds. Does this cost money? How much is a typical meal there? Can I come to just hang out?
Frist, there is no admision cost to just come and hang out.
The Brickhouse Cafe serves a great selection of American food, has a full bar, and has been gracious enough to give us the upstairs room. Their dinner menu prices range from about $7 to $17, with most dinners around $10. If money is tight you could just get some french fries ($2.75) to snack on or even just drink water. There's enough people paying for food that they don't care if some people come just to hang out.
What should I wear?
There is no dresscode for the munch. The attendence includes people who have been into BDSM for decades to goths and others who just like to dress up for fetish
clubs and have little or no BDSM experience. About a third of the people show up in some type of simple fetish wear, about a third in goth type outfits, and a third in street or work clothes. The simple answer is come in whatever you want. But if you want to feel like your blending in, then wearing dark clothes doesn't hurt.
I heard about some Munch/Fetish Announcements
elist. What is it and how do I join?
There is an announcements-only elist, simply called the SF Fetish list, which is
used to announce the TNG Munch and other bay area events of
interest to younger BDSM players. People can sign up for the list by talking
to Jason in person (either at the Munch or wherever else).
I don't fit the 18-38 age range.
Where can I find info about other BDSM munches and events?
The Society of Janus is an SF-based
BDSM education/support group. They also provide a
great calendar for bay area munches,
classes, and other BDSM events.
